Well what a week. We are back into the swing of it and I am very excited to head into my second year of teaching. This week consisted 2 jammed packed inset days filled with plenty of CPD for a confident start to the year. We also had classroom time which was rather useful to complete those last minute finishing bits and bobs. The second half of my week consisted of me conducting home visits. As a Nursery teacher, this is an essential stage and these 20 minute home interactions set up a fantastic year of learning to come. These have got me very excited to welcome my new cohort into the classroom tomorrow.

Heading into my first day of teaching for the new academic year tomorrow, I thought a good start would be reflecting on some SLT feedback from last years observations, celebrating my successes and holding myself accountable to set some goals for my suggested areas of development.

I had a few observations consisting of both group teaching and continuous provision. I will start by sharing my strengths, leading into areas of development and finally my goals to support these.

Strengths:

1. - Good use of visual structures in teaching to support understanding (now/next, symbols, photographs etc)

2. - Children are receiving highly targeted learning to support their access to the curriculum and develop their social skills.

Areas of development:

1. - Consider how to use PECs to support 'it's me'/pronouns as well as to develop sentences.

2. - Always ensure additional staff as focussed on maximising learning in the classroom.

Goals of ECT2:

1. - This observation focussed on working with a small group of higher need children. From then till now, I have completed online training focusing in the use of visuals as well as working with expert staff to improve my teaching, knowledge and understanding of working with children with SEND. As I head in ECT2 I will continue to sign up to any additional training and work closely with expert staff to support my day to day practice. In my free time, I will continue to work on sing a long knowledge, providing more communication pathways for all children.

2. - To support my development in working with additional adults, following on from the observation, I met with my TA's to ensure we were always on the same page and asked their expectation from me of what they would like to see in the planning and what I could do to be more effective. This meeting set up a clear communication pathway and ensured we were 'all singing from the same hymn sheet'. I adapted our planned proforma upon reflected and always dedicated a good chunk of phase meeting time of setting and exploring the objectives for next week with the staff and allowed plenty of time for questioning. This worked well. Heading into ECT2 I will ensure these meetings are in place to support all additional adults to ensure as a team we are working in the most effective way and that there is continuity between every adult and the quality of their teaching for all children.

As always, to end with a quote. Todays rather eloquently summaries the importance of reflecting on change, in order to further improve and excel.

"Self - reflection is an important stage to diagnose, develop and strength your creativity." - Pearl Zhu.
