Page 65: Where am I teaching in September?
The staffing plan. I feel I can talk about schools in general here, but that time when the team are awaiting the staffing plan, there is much chatter, anticipation and a variety of theories getting thrown out in the staff room!
Now however, I can only really talk about myself. I personally felt quite at ease awaiting for that staffing plan to be announced. I had thoroughly enjoyed my first year teaching in Nursery but I was also open to change.
When reflecting upon both possibilities, staying meant I had a in depth knowledge and understanding of the development matters and school curriculum, I would be able to reflect on what worked well this year and implement these, as well as reflect on what did not work so well and change these for next year. I would also be familiar with the space. Knowing how the rooms feels and moves is particulary essential in forming a well organised and effective continuous provision. This year I have begun to take on and become more involved with the wider school, examples of this include beginning subject leadership and becoming the staff governor. Staying in my current year group would allow me greater capacity to develop these areas further.
As mentioned above, additionally I was also very open to the moving year groups. When I think about my career plan and where I would like to progress, one day, I very much would like to be a headteacher. From a class teacher, building myself up through developing leadership qualifications, becoming a TLR, assistant and deputy headteacher. To uphold this not even just generally but effectively, I am aware and excited about the journey that I will go on to reach this point. To lead well, I will need a thorough and in depth understadning of all year groups and curriculum so moving meant I would start to build on my experience and knowledge in other areas.
I am aware I am dragging this out so I will keep this short and simple to announce that I am staying in Nursery! I am very excited to start chapter 23'/24' and develop my knowledge and expertise in teaching in the EYFS. Join me next week where I share my top 5 reasons I am excited to teach Nursery again!
To end this snappy update and leave you in suspense for my next page, I will end this page with a quote that summaries teaching EYFS rather neatly:
"The teacher's task is to initiate the learning and then get out of the way." - John Warren.
- Miss Yeoman.
