There is no other way to quickly start this post from my traditional (at times, boring) ramble than a quick apology. There is no other way I could describe the last few months than manic, and sadly time to write these posts just did not exist. I am still in the midst of my dissertation so all my writing outlet is very much plugged into my research, however, I thought it was definitely time for a quick major update!

Here are some little updates from the life of 'Miss Yeoman' over the last few months where I left off.

1. My year two placement

So, I left off at the interim point of my final year placement. I started 2022 returning to my wonderful school, mentors and class after the Christmas holidays for the final month of my placement. I had the most amazing final weeks with highlights including planning and resourcing maths for a three form entry year group, support and lead (in my class) the integration of refugee pupils into mainstream classes and had the opportunity to be the 'full class teacher' for just over a week. All three of these examples are just a small sample of some of the things I got up too that really shaped me as a teacher in the last chunk of my training. At the beginning of February, it was the time I had been dreading since my very first week back in October - leaving. The placement could not have finished on more of a high, achieve exceeding in all areas and throwing a super surprise party for the children to remember! I created such strong professional relationships with the teaching team and children I worked with during my time in KS1 and I still miss this throughly. I will always remember and cherish my final placement here.

2. My dissertation

As soon as my final placement ended, this was the switch to dissertation mode! Over the past few months i've planned, read, wrote ; planned, read, wrote ; and planned, read, wrote - continuously. I am very passionate about my area of research (I am exploring early speech and reading acquisition) and I am throughly enjoying the process and excited to share more when I have completed the study. Carrying out primary research myself, has been an amazing process. The stress of the ethics application I will not undermine, but this completed, the ability to conduct my own research to bring forward in my teaching and pedagogical decision and hopefully fellow teachers is fantastic. Where am I at now? My dissertation is structured across two modules totalling and 8000 word project. 4000 words in and submitted, and I now begin part two. I have analysed and coded my data through a thematic analysis and now I am discussing my findings. I am excited to continue reading and drawing connections between literature and my data to conclude my study.

3. The job

I am still in shock and over the moon to say I have secured my ECT postion starting in July, ready for my own full class in September! On top of my dissertation, I had also been exploring securing my ECT postion. From my placement experiences and tours around schools, you very quickly know what school, ethos and environment is for you. Finding that match is perfect and I am so happy to be returning to one of my previous placement schools and joining the team! The environment and ethos mirrors who I am as a teacher, full of supportive staff to aiding pupil and personal progress at heart. I am very grateful for all the opportunties that I have had training through university and my three placements, shaping who I am as a teacher now. I have developed and evolved into an ECT practitioner and I am so excited to continue on this journey.

I have kept this sweet and brief as a little update and to promise I will be back with my regular uploads when I have finished my research. I started this journey documenting tips for fellow trainee teachers and a reflection upon my own practice. I cannot wait for this to evolve and support mine and fellow ECT journeys.

I hope everyone is having a fantastic and well deserved Easter break,

- Miss Yeoman
