Page 41: The Start of the End ...
The start of the end. Time is one of those abstract thoughts. It is one of those complex concepts that runs with you, and I cannot believe how fast my teacher training journey has gone and I am now a third year student! I am so excited to continue progressing and developing through this final year to becoming that teacher I have always strived and dreamed to become.
As I start my first week of university for the last time, today I am going to share 5 preparation tips which I have learnt and adapted over the last 2 years which I am bringing to my first week!
1. As a student, I know it is easy to try and save and 'make do' when possible but investing in new fresh stationary is a definite recommendation! Having a new pad, pen, sticky notes and highlighters, you will have a fresh and organised start to your year.
2. Be organised, plan your route and travel plan for that first few days in advance - know what bus to get on, what time to leave the house as there is nothing worse than being that person who walks in late to that first lecture of the year!
3. Stay fuelled, following on from a year of being pretty much online and out of the swing of things, remember that packed lunch and water! You need the energy to start being grilled and learning again as well as not wanting the embarrassment of a loud rumbling tummy in a lecture!
4. Make use of your peers, like drawing from your expert lectures knowledge and understanding, work with your peers when not just discussing and learning about key educational polices, theory and practice, but settling into the swing of the pressure and struggles university may take too. You are each others best support and learning system as you are going through the same experiences together!
5. Be confident and bold. You have earned and worked hard to be sat in that lecture theatre seat. Put your hand up, ask key questions and make the most of your lectures knowledge as the experiences and teaching they share is vital in your training. Like we further question our pupils to challenge and support their understanding, do not be afraid to do the same to your lecturers to make the most out of your training and development!
I am looking forward to getting stuck back in shortly and back into the swing of 'hopefully' the most "normal" university year yet! After a week short few weeks in university, placement will be starting taking up majority of the first half of the year. Im looking forward to starting my KS1 journey, on the last step of my training and getting back in the classroom. The place I feel the most myself, powerful and hopefully inspirational.
To end today's page, I will finish with a quote that sums up the start of the end in my teaching training perfectly. There is not a stop to my learning, these three years of education is not be becoming the best teacher I can be independently, it is a starting learning journey, where I have found my feet, where I will build from further knowledge and understanding, to excel in my career.
