Page 29: Back to my EYFS placement ...  What's in my bag?

Today (Sunday 6th June 2021), is the day before I am back to school. Over the last few weeks being back in contact with school, planning and discussing ideas for my return, it just reaffirms to be my strong passion for the profession, as for me, everything builds up to that moment I am back in the classroom.

I am returning to the same EYFS class that I spent the spring half-term in and I cannot wait to see my class again as well as my amazing and supportive mentors and get back into such a wonderful school. I am intrigued to see the developmental progress of the children, especially those who when I was in school last, retuned after months of remote online learning due to the national lockdown. As a result, although some excelled, many pupils were behind previous expected expectations for the point in the year so I am looking forward to seeing both the academic and social developments of all the learners and continue to support this further.

Being a year 2 trainee teacher, my minimum requirement is to be planning and teaching 60% of all learning. Due to being placed in the EYFS this is a mix of structured lessons as well as planning and setting up all areas of both indoor and outdoor provision. With it now being summer and hopefully the weather a bit better, I am eager to spend more time exploring the outside provision area and the learning experiences that can be facilitated. In particular - I have heard all about the mud kitchen which I'm sure will be brilliant to see in action! As we are further getting through the roadmap and areas out of lockdown, with restrictions easing, I am keen to help contribute further to the wider life of school, help with clubs and trips if appropriate as well teaching higher percentages and becoming more confident with assessment and 'setting up leaning'. Enabling environments is essential to any classroom, but with the EYFS being so child lead and focused upon their own interpretations of the learning, making the most of your environment with so being to the highest standard is essential.

I think I have probably made it clear enough how eager I am to be back in school tomorrow, with lots of preparations at hand this week today's a slightly shorter but just as handy page! I have decided to share my must bring essential items in my bag for placement:

-  My morning coffee

- Lunch and water bottle

- Books (I like to bring some of my own books in from time to time to share with the class)

- Lesson prep/resources folder

- Placement folder (this includes all key documents, DBS, safeguarding procedures etc)

- Few toiletries (deodorant, lip balm etc)

- Suncream (with outdoor provision, this is an essential for the summer months) as well as bringing my wellies and waterproof coat as it could go either way!

- Sticker folder

- Keys

- School lanyard

- Hand sanitiser

- Masks (and spare)

As you can probably tell, there is a few things added to this list that on previous placements would never be considered and now I could never imagine not bringing! I totally recommended one of those small sanitiser bottles that you can attach to your lanyard during this current time and ensure to be sanitising all times appropriate! I have most likely left something off, as my bag changes daily but this is just a little overview of some of the key things to bring to school!

With lots to do and some final placement preparation ready for tomorrow, I will leave today's page here. Being organised is an essential key skills for all teachers. Being organised and well structured at home, starting with good night before preparations (making your lunch and laying out your clothes), alongside a well packed and organised bag, sets up for a stress free organised morning that can carry on into your classroom.
