Page 74: Happy Half Term! Three things I enjoyed as an EYFS teacher in Autumn 1!

When considering how I would like to sum up the first half term, I knew I could get onto my inevitable ramble. For today's page, I decided that I would share three (of many) highlights of the first half term of the year.

1. The children. It has been a fantastic 7 weeks welcoming our new cohort into school. Learning alongside the children, it has been a privilege to welcome them into education and support the first step of a lifelong learning journey. From meeting them at home, settling the children into a part time timetable and then getting into the true school swing of it, through the topic all about me, it has been fantastic. As the year continues, I look forward to seeing where our learning takes us next.

2. The team. This year, I am working with some of the small but also a few new members of staff. Welcoming a new partner teacher and teaching assistant to the team, establishing these professional relationships has been great. We have brought new ideas to the table, whilst discussing what worked well last year. This combination has been refreshing and it is essential to share practice when developing your teaching. Again, I look forward to learning from and with my colleagues as the year progresses.

3. Classroom evolution. One thing I particularly love about EYFS is the superb classroom and provision you can offer to the children. So far this year, I have thoroughly enjoyed adapting our classroom and provision alongside our learning. This is both in terms of topics such as exploring autumn as well as changing layout out/provision in line with children's learning needs and how upon reflecting implementing small changes to test 'what works best'. I think the classroom is looking in a great place and look forward to seeing how this evolves further next half term.

As a final note, well done! The first (and in my personal opinion most challenging stage of a Nursery year), settling our children into school and learning is complete. I look forward to carrying out our learning after the October break where we delve into the topic 'Let's Celebrate'. Time for a relaxing break and catching with family and friends. See you in a week!
