Today, I am very excited to announce that in October I will be starting something very exciting.

Over the summer holidays and the first few weeks of school, I was part of an application process where I am very excited to announce that in a few weeks I will being my National Professional Qualification in Leading Teaching.

Why do I want to complete this qualification?

I am a passionate and aspiring leader, currently completing my ECT years. As I enter into year 2, I am inspired and engaged by course content, the pedagogy used to deliver the sessions and the knowledge that I have learnt, reflected on and implemented in my practice. Stated in the National Professional Qualification (NPQ): Leading Teaching Framework, teachers are the foundation of the education system. In my practice, through reflections, I am able to ensure my practice is up to date with new policy and practice research, adapting these materials to my learners.

This will support my development in becoming a successful leader in teaching, driving this crucial but complex role underpinned by school curriculum and assessment and how to put these approaches into practice relevant to the contextual understating of my school. Through the innovative and inspiring course content, I will be able to use the knowledge and expertise gained to develop my abilities and confidence in being a subject leader and future aspirations of gaining a TLR and progressing to senior leadership.

I will share some of my passion and 'opinion' on teaching and learning in today's post. As I begin this qualification I look forward to sharing my research and learning with you all and reflect upon this in both my classroom practice and future school wider leadership. With a few weeks until we begin, I will share what I believe underpins effective teaching and learning.

As an aspiring leader who has a passion for driving high quality practice in my classroom, I have decided to explore developing teaching and learning (including curriculum and assessment) exploring the impact on pupils and staff in my school. I believe that effective teaching and learning is underpinned by 5 key strands: climate, engagement,  adaptive teaching, learners making progress and assessment.

In developing teaching and learning effectively, all of these strands need to be combined through a holistic approach aligning in harmony with each other. It is key to note, to make a difference and to succeed in driving development, as the leader, I would educate all stakeholders to explore and consequently agree that not one of these strands can succeed alone. All stakeholders need to agree that these elements make up good teaching.

Ultimately, the quality of teaching and learning has the biggest influence on the progress in learning that any child can make. Strong leadership and a clear vision shared ensures all staff are confident and proud in their practice, and all children are able to make maximum progress.

As I progress through the course, I look forward to widening and refining my knowledge and understadning as I enter this exciting new chapter of my career.
